Creative aperture disks have shapes cut out of them, and drop into the front of a Lensbaby lens just like regular Lensbaby aperture disks. The shape will appear anywhere bright points of light are out of focus (ie, decorative lights at night or the sun shining through leaves) in an image. This effect is visible through the viewfinder.
The Creative Aperture Kit 2 is compatible with the Lensbaby Double Glass, Single Glass, Plastic and Soft Focus Optics. Not compatible with Sweet 35, Edge 80, Fisheye or Pinhole/Zone Plate Optics and Spark.
The shapes in the Creative Aperture Kit 2 include one of each of the following: birds, diamonds, dripsplat, heart, slots, star, swirly, sunburst and whirlpool. Several of these shapes were created by Lensbaby photographers and chosen via a contest. The winners include Troy Eiffert (slots), Ivan DeWolf (dripsplat), Jerrid Jones (diamonds), Andrew Kua (swirly) and Bjørn Rannestad (whirlpool). The remainder of the shapes are courtesy of Lensbaby staff.

I have added these to my Lensbaby bag with my Muse and double glass optic. I have to appreciate the fact that now I have one less step to do in final edits. No longer do I have to search through file after file of textures to bring into PS to add that extra something special to the picture - it's already there! The aperture discs were by far a great addition to my Lensbaby collection.

When I saw the discs, I thought why do I need these? But I've had lots of fun and created amazingly unusual shots with the discs:
At a wedding party I used the heart-shaped disc and focussed on the edge of a champagne glass with coloured lights in the background to create a romantic effect and stunning side shots for the bride's wedding album.
In a separate session, I lit some candles and focussed on their reflections on a window at night. The resulting collection of images captured using the Lensbaby Composer Pro, the Double Glass Optic and a whole range of creative aperture discs provided super motifs for my 2011 Festive Season gift cards.
I recommend taking time to experiment. Don't delete until you see the results on the monitor. The camera monitor doesn't do the images justice!
