Don't already own a Lensbaby lens body? You'll need one to put your Edge 80 into - we recommend the Composer Pro with Double Glass or the Composer Pro with Sweet 35.
The Edge 80 Optic is a 80mm, flat field of focus optic with a 12-blade adjustable aperture and is compatible with all Lensbaby lens bodies*. When tilted, the Edge 80 delivers a slice of tack sharp focus through the image, bordered by soft blur. When pointed straight ahead, the Edge 80 can be used just like a high-quality straight lens.
When tilted, the size of that slice of focus depends upon the aperture used, and the placement of the slice of focus depends upon the degree and direction of tilt. Rotating the aperture dial on the front of the optic changes between apertures from f/2.8 through f/22.
The Edge 80 also features a special close-focus function. Photographers can extend the front of the optic to focus as close as 17" away from their subject. Want to see even closer? Add on the Lensbaby Macro Converter.
The Edge 80 Optic is part of the Lensbaby Optic Swap™ System.
An incredibly versatile portrait lens, Edge 80 can also be used to great effect in any situation that lends itself to selective focus - from food photography to giving landscapes a "miniature" appearance. To better understand how tilt, aperture and focus can all affect the Edge 80 image, visit the Edge 80 Optic simulator here:
The Edge 80 has 46mm threads so it is not compatible with the Lensbaby 37mm thread accessories.

I have been using the Canon 100mm Macro for food photography, but wanted to try some more unique focusing. I have used the Lensbaby for food in the past, but with the standard optic, it just created too much blur on the edges. The food needs to still be indentifiable, so I went on the recommendation of a photographer friend to buy the Edge 80 Optic. First time with the lens, I was on a "test shoot" with two other photographers for a two year photography contract with a chain of restaurants. I got the job and they loved the images where I used the Lensbaby with the Edge 80. I also plan to use it for a few images from each of my high school senior portrait sessions this coming fall.

This Optic combines a great quality lens as well as the usual rough/soft edge effect/look to your images you'd expect from a Lens baby product. Depending on your angle to your background or subject, the effect can be almost unnoticeable & so natural looking, perfect in my book!
The swapping technique is so easy too.....just need an even bigger bag now to carry all my stuff in!

When the Composer with Tilt Transformer was released, I was dying for something akin for my Nikon D90. I've long wanted a tilt-shift lens, but felt that option was out of my price range. Lensbaby Edge 80 to the rescue! This is a fantastic alternative to a four-figure tilt-shift lens, and I can't say enough about how much I adore it. It works just as described, and the results are fantastic. I use mine with the Composer Pro and don't have a single gripe. I've also been using it with the Macro Converters and again, wonderful results. The Edge 80 has exceeded my expectations in every way. In future, I'd love to be able to swap in Nikon-mount lenses to use in a similar fashion for tilt, but that's in no way a negative point on the Edge 80 (which rocks in every way).

The Edge80 allows me to create a compelling portrait at a focal length that's flattering to the subject.
The fast aperture, longer focal length, and typical Lensbaby focal plane adjustments allows me to truly create an "edge" of focus through the image. If you love working with shallow depth of field, you'll love the Edge80.

I had the chance to test drive the Edge 80, and what can I say...I absolutely LOVE it. It's very easy to manipulate and gives a tilt shift look without the cumbersome dials and controls of an actual tilt shift lens (I actually have a tilt shift so I've used both).
Add to that the fact that this costs MUCH less than a tilt shift lens and you've got an amazing product! I can't wait to play with mine more...loving the results so far!

Plain and simple, this is optic has become my new must-have for every shoot! While I am a fan of all of the amazing Lensbaby lenses and optics out there, this particular optic is pure perfection.
The subtle tilt-shift makes it so versatile, I've actually photographed entire sessions with it and loved the results! If you looking to add a creative flair to your images, the Lensbaby Composer Pro with Edge 80 is your answer!

I have rented a variety of Canon tilt-shift lenses over the years for portrait and sports work, and I can say that will come to an end after using the Edge 80.
This lens is a lot more effective at dialing in the tilt look than the cumbersome and expensive TS lenses. I like being able to tilt the lens at any angle in a more intuitive way. I very much appreciate the 80mm focal length too. I love using the Edge 80 for portraits.
The Edge 80 gives the tilt look at a fraction of the price, with less weight, and ease of use.

As someone who primarily shoots with 50mm and 85mm prime lenses, I couldn't be more excited about the release of the Edge 80. I have always favored my double glass optic because of the focal length but longed for the ability to easily change apertures.
Now I have the best of both worlds -- a focal length of 80mm and the ability to quickly change aperture. The quality and performance of this optic is top-notch and I have no doubt that this will be my new Lensbaby optic of choice.
